Would-be illegal immigrants planning to cross the desert and enter the United States on foot are to be given hand-held satellite devices by the Mexican authorities to ensure they arrive safely.
Those who get lost or fall sick during the dangerous four-day crossing will be able to activate the device, to alert frontier police on both sides of the border.
The satellite tracking service will require would-be illegals to register their intentions before setting off - a paradoxical move, given that secrecy is necessary for success - but Mexican authorities are predicting that about 200,000 devices will be handed out when the project is launched formally in the coming year.
"Our intention is to save lives," said Jaime Obregon, the coordinator for the state commission for migrants in Puebla, the Mexican state which is behind the project. "There are lots of people looking to cross and we are working with the US authorities to make sure they do not die on the way." '

According to Mexican state migrant authorities, up to 75,000 attempt the crossing every month, of whom between 50,000 and 60,000 are caught by US border patrols and sent back.
The chance of success depends greatly on the knowledge of the guide, known as a "coyote" or "desert fox". They charge between $2,000 and $10,000 per person (�1,025-�5,100).

The government has launched a new web site tracking the hometowns of millions of Mexicans residing in the United States, the Foreign Relations Secretariat (SRE) said Saturday.
The site, which features maps of both countries, shows how Mexican migrants tend to settle in U.S. cities where residents from their home state or town have gone before them, the SRE said in a news release.
The SRE said the information, gathered by Mexican consulates in the United States, will help people to better understand Mexican migration.''
Both of the above stories are indicative of the fact that the mass Mexican invasion is not a random, spontaneous event, but is carried out with the aid and assistance of the Mexican government, certainly, and it appears, with the knowledge and approval of 'our' government. This is also another piece of supporting evidence for the move to unite all of North America in some unholy 'North American Union.' It seems more and more as if this is a fait accompli, and they are just waiting to formalize it, and looking for an optimum time to break the news to their citizens, or should I say 'subjects'. No doubt the deniers and scoffers who insist that there is no North American Union planned will refuse to admit that likelihood; either they are spin artists who are appointed to debunk the stories and thus try to calm people's misgivings, or they are simply indoctrinated true believers who honestly think that their favorite political party or leaders can do no wrong. Either way, anyone who continues to deny that there is a move afoot to unite North America is not willing to follow the truth wherever it leads, but choosing to wish away unpleasant or difficult facts.
But one wonders why these stories tend to be leaked out in dribs and drabs; is the idea to let us know what is going on a little at a time, so that we get used to it, like the proverbial frog in warm water which is gradually heated to a boil? And will the news we receive tend to make us resigned and fatalistic, accepting the loss of our country and culture as something we cannot avoid or resist?

From the Newark Star-Ledger, we read that according to U.S. Attorney Christopher Christie, illegal ''immigrants'' are not criminals.
Huh?
Immigrants and their advocates today found an unlikely ally: the top law enforcement officer in New Jersey.
U.S. Attorney Christopher Christie surprised many at a Dover church public forum when he said sneaking into the United States is not a criminal act.
"Being in this country without proper documentation is not a crime," Christie told more than 60 residents and town officials. "The whole phrase of 'illegal immigrant' connotes that the person, by just being here, is committing a crime."
Being undocumented may be a civil wrong, but it's not a criminal act, Christie said.
"Don't let people make you believe that that's a crime that the U.S. Attorney's Office should be doing something about," he added of entering the country illegally. "It is not."
After having read the whole article (read the rest at the link, if you think it will help) I still say: huh?
Can some of my readers with legal savvy or knowledge explain this to me? Or is he just obfuscating and announcing that he has no intention of doing his job? I really don't understand how something that is illegal is not at the same time criminal. Is this just parsing of words, or is there something I am not understanding? Or does it depend on what the meaning of ''is'' is?
I ask these questions in all seriousness, not rhetorically. Explanations, anyone?

On September 28, 1066, William, Duke of Normandy landed at Pevensey in Sussex; this led eventually to the Norman conquest of England.What does this have to do with America? It's part of our Western heritage, part of the backstory of America.
The Normans don't get much favorable coverage in our history books; the prevailing attitude is that the Normans were just these aggressors who came, saw, and conquered, and after playing the villains in stories like Robin Hood and Ivanhoe, disappeared into the mists of history. Wrong; they have many descendants in England today, as well as throughout the countries settled by British men and women. The Normans in fact have descendants in America today. Many of us of old-stock ancestry have considerable Norman ancestry.
We hear the term 'Anglo-Saxon' used so frequently that we forget the contribution Normans made to the history and the culture of Britain.
The influence on the English language was considerable; just compare Old English to Middle English.
Some of the Norman words which entered English are parliament, marriage, matrimony, courtesy, chivalry, and many others.
And speaking of invasions of England, Sir George Trevelyan said
It is a commonplace to say that the British are a people of mixed blood�.it may be as well to say, at the outset, that the entrance to our islands of the races who people it today was completed at the time of the Norman conquest. With that event, which itself made less racial than social and cultural change, we come to an end of migratory invasions and forced entry at point of sword. Since Hastings there has been nothing more catastrophic than a slow peaceful infiltration of alien craftsmen and labourers -- Flemings, Huguenots, Irish and others -- with the acquiescence of the existing inhabitants of the island."
I don't know when Sir George Trevelyan wrote those words, but doubtless it was before Britain was inundated with immigrants -- without the active consent of the existing inhabitants of the island.
