In remembrance

Each man's death diminishes me,
For I am involved in mankind.
Therefore, send not to know
For whom the bell tolls,
It tolls for thee.
- John Donne, Meditation XVII, from Devotions Upon Emergent Occasions
In remembrance of the 2,996 people who were killed on 9/11/2001.
Today, as the seventh anniversary of the that date, should be an occasion to remember them and to honor their lives and memories, quite apart from any political statements about the event, its causes, or any assignment of culpability. We are divided as a nation much more starkly now than we were seven years ago, and we might for a moment be united in remembering.
